What is the difference between salt & ice melt?

Salt lowers the freezing point of water. Small amounts of salt partially melt the ice forming a brine (solution of salt and water). The solution flows under the ice and breaks the bond between the ice and pavement. Rock salt works down to 5°F and helps provide instant traction on snow on ice. Ice melt, typically, is a blend of sodium chloride, magnesium chloride pellets, and calcium chloride pellets. Ice melt is the best performing for fast melting and long lasting action. It melts to -15°F.

What is the difference between backpack & upright vacuums?

The type machine you need will be determined by the type and amount of carpeting on your site. Another key factor will be degree of obstruction. In other words, how much “stuff” is in the building you are trying to clean.

Upright vacuums are used for carpeted floors. Most are not effective in edging, cleaning air vents and other difficult to reach areas which may require the cleaner to use a canister or tank vac of such tasks. According to ISSA Cleaning Times Standards they are the most inefficient units even when maintained properly and can actually contribute to dust issues in a given space. They are a cheap vacuum cleaner to buy and an expensive unit to own over any period of time if you are cleaning large areas.

Backpack vacuums, as their name implies, are a special kind of canister vacuum designed so the tank can be worn on the operator’s back. Backpack vacuums, as their name implies, are a special kind of canister vacuum designed so the tank can be worn on the operator’s back. The chief advantage of this arrangement is increased productivity with ISSA claiming that a quality back pack operator can cover up to 5 times as much area as a typical upright unit. In addition, they can be a flexible tool for edging, dusting, cleaning vents, blinds and other areas in a well thought out schedule. Although they oftentimes cost 2 – 4 times as much as a basic upright vacuum cleaner, they tend to pay for themselves in reduced labor for accomplishing the same area. They also are less expensive to operate since they do not have belts or beater bars that have to be serviced/ replaced on most upright units.

What are the benefits of using microfiber?

Enhances cleaning power: Microfiber cleans more effectively, reaching into surface pores and crevices, where cotton mop materials are too large for deep cleaning.

Contributes to reducing water and chemical usage: Microfiber mops use about 10-20 times less liquid than standard cotton mops, helping reduce procurement costs. Very few microfiber applications require the use of chemicals.

Helps increase productivity: The effort of dipping and wringing a conventional mop is eliminated. As long as the used microfiber mop head is not put back in the cleaning solution, the user does not have to change the solution between tasks.

Assists in reducing cross-contamination: Healthcare facilities have been quick to embrace microfiber cleaning. In an effort to reduce cross contamination risk between patient rooms, some state laws require that maintenance personnel change out the mop and/or cleaning solution after every room. Using microfiber flat mops helps the facility comply with these requirements.

Can reduce the risk of worker injury: Microfiber mops weigh significantly less than conventional wet cotton loop mops, making them more ergonomic and easier to use.
